Mission: To provide information, and a range of services, activities and volunteer opportunities which promote personal growth, health, friendship and independence for older persons.

The Garfield Heights Senior Center is located in The Civic Center, 5407 Turney Road. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except holidays). Tax Assistance

Free Income Tax Assistance provided by trained AARP volunteers each spring.

Snow Removal

For low-income residents 65 years of age or older and low-income disabled residents 18 years of age or older (if no able bodied person resides i the house).

Food Bank

Sponsored by the City of Garfield Heights. The Food Bank is available to income-qualifying residents on the third Friday of every month, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Flu Shots

Sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.

Senior Activities

All activities are held at the Senior Center, 5407 Turney Road, Garfield Heights. Yearly registration is required.

Nance Rayokovich is the on-site Activities Administrator. She is responsible for overseeing volunteers and volunteer-lead programs, leading some of the exercise and art classes as well as putting together the annual trips. She can be contacted at 216-475-3244.

Pinochle Tournaments

1st Friday of the month at 12:30 p.m.
Cost is $1.00.

Card Playing

Daily - informal games if players are available.

Machine Bowling

Bowling is .10 cents/game.

Billiards

Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Crafts

Daily: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Crocheting, knitting and sewing. Many items on display and for sale.

Lite Aerobics

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. - 9:55a.m.
Class is FREE.

Strength Training

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m.
Cost $0.50.

Flexibility Class

Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Cost $0.50.

Computer Classes

Basic Computer Classes Offered

Tuesdays or Wednesday.
12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Cost $25.00 for six-week session.
Registration is required.
Must be 55 years of age or older and a Cuyahoga County resident.

Advanced Classes Offered

Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Start time 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. classes are 1 1/2 hours long.
Word 2003, Hallmark Cards/Labels, E-mail Refresher, E-mail Attachments, Internet, Typing Tutorial.
Cost $5.00 - $20.00
Must have Basic Computer to qualify for Advanced Classes.
Registration is required.
Must be 55 years of age or older and a Cuyahoga County resident.

Geri Fit Class

Tuesdays and Thursday 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Must have a Doctor's release.

Line Dancing

Advanced - Monday at 12:30 p.m.

Bingo

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after lunch: 12:30pm

Movies

New releases on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
Classic movies on Friday at 12:15 p.m.

Currently working on scheduling day trips. Trips will be posted at the Senior Center and published in the monthly Senior Hi-Lites newsletter and the Neighborhood News.

Senior Transportation

Transportation Services

Transportation provided by the City of Garfield Heights for residents are 60 and over or disabled within established geographic boundaries. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. Priority is given to dialysis and medical appointments. Service provided is curb to curb. Riders must be able to board and debark independently with minimal assistance. All buses are wheelchair accessible. To register, schedule a ride or for more information, call the Senior Center at 216-475-3244.
