CITY OF GARFIELD HEIGHTS

PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Description of Classes

Snowplow Sam 1,2,3

These classes are designed to help the preschool age skater develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice.  These classes allow preschool children to become comfortable on the ice.

Basic 1-8

These eight levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves - forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, three turns, and mohawks.  Upon completion of the Basic 1-8 level skaters will have the basis knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating.  If your child is over 5 and has never skated you should register for Basic 1 and your child will be evaluated to be sure they are at the correct class assignment.

Freestyle 1-6

The freeskate level are designed to give skaters a strong foundation on which to build up their skills.  This is the point where the skater can chose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating.

On Ice Clinics

Offered for ALL skating levels.  We will cover a different discipline each week.  Power, Artistry, Spins, Jumps, and Proper Stretching techniques are examples of disciplines we cover.
