Ranking Firefighters Take Oath of Office

Garfield Heights Fire Lt. Tom Lisy, a 23-year veteran of the department, was promoted to the rank of captain during a swearing-in ceremony Dec. 29 at Fire Station No. 1 on Turney Road. Firefighter Joe Warner, a 12-year veteran, was promoted to lieutenant.

Capt. Lisy became a firefighter in 1988 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1993, the youngest person ever to achieve the rank in department history. For the past 20 years, he has been an integral part of the regional HazMat team. He received a Heroic Achievement award for risking his life to rescue a man trapped and unconscious inside a gasoline storage tank. In addition to firefighting duties, Lisy will be in charge of training for the fire department.

Lt. Warner was hired in 1999 and is following the career path of his father, Concord Township Fire Chief Mike Warner, president of the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association. Lt. Warner has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Lakeland Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership from Bellevue University. In addition to firefighting duties, Warner will be responsible for maintenance of the 1,300 fire hydrants in the city. He also is a part-time Concord Township fire lieutenant.
